SECOND CHANCE SERVICES
Re-homing your pit bull

Not that long ago, you were thrilled to have a Pit Bull of your very own. You never dreamed  that you would have to give him up someday.  Even if you are unable to keep him anymore, your dog still depends on you to do what is best for him.  Now, more than ever, he needs you to make the right choices for his future.

We at EAB will be direct and honest with you.  Your dog is your responsibility.  He has no one else but you to look out for his interests. It will take patience and persistence to find him the right home.  He deserves your best efforts.

Finding a new home for a dog involves several steps.  Before you start, please take a minute to read all the information that we have provided below.

First ask your self -  Do I really need to re-home him?
Can we assist in making your dog more manageable and obedient? Email us at:  info@educate-a-bull.org

If re-homing your dog appears to be the last resort, please consider the following:
Shelters and humane societies were created to care for stray and abused animals.  They were not intended to be a drop-off for people who no longer want their pets.  Shelters, on average, take in 100 new animals or more each day.  The unfortunate reality is that there will not be enough good homes for all of them.

Being a purebred will not help your dog's chances of adoption either.  Almost half of the dogs in many shelters are purebred.  Chances are, things will be worse for your dog because he is a Pit Bull.  Due to the breed's bad reputation and the fact that Pit Bulls are attractive to undesirable individuals, many shelters across the nation have a "non-adoption" policy on Pit Bull type dogs and will not put them up for adoption at all.

Sending your dog to a shelter in hopes that he will find a good home is wishful thinking.  A shelter is your last resort, only after all your best efforts have failed.

If you can provide love, a daily walk, some exercise space , proper training, and food and water, your dog has a much better home than most looking for placement.  We know that you may feel that you do not have what it takes to properly care for your dog, but we believe that your dog is receiving all that he needs.  In a world as over populated and dangerous for Pit Bull dogs, you are the best chance that your family pet has.

We recommend that if you need support or any assistance in caring for, training, or just venting about your dog, please email us  info@educate-a-bull.org.  Our volunteers are full of expertise and can help you overcome many problems or answer any questions that you may have.  We at EAB are here to assist and help you realize that the best place for your dog is with you.

If you still want to proceed with the EAB Second Chance Services program, and find a new home for your dog, please take the time to carefully read the following guidelines:

* Dogs entering the program MUST first be temperament tested by an educate a bull evaluator.  Even the youngest, cutest, and best mannered bullies have a hard time finding a  forever home.

*We cannot or will not re-home a bully that shows aggression towards people.  Period. ( But  educate a bull’s Turn Around Training Program may be able to help you and your dog.)

* Dogs must be spay/neutered and vaccinated. This is your responsibility as a dog owner.  We may be able to assist you in low-cost vet care if needed.

* You will provide foster care for your dog throughout the adoption process.

*You can assist in making your dog a better pet through our Turn Around Training Program. We provide all the training assistance to help rid your pet of any unwanted behaviors. Pets that are obedience trained have a higher chance of adoption .

* You will need to pay a donation fee of $200.00 for the EAB second chance services.
Second Chances Services program provides:

Advertising your dog:  We will be getting the word around through our web site, special promotions and events
-  Interviewing and screening potential adopters:  It is a dangerous world for Pit Bulls these days.  We have trained volunteers to interview adopters and check all of  their references.
Conducting home visits:  It is extremely important to personally go to an potential adopter’s home and evaluate their potential to adopt. We inqure about:  The type of fence they have.  If they have children.  If  they have other pets.  If they allow their pets to roam freely.   As well as their ability to  physically and financially care for a pet.  These are just some of the questions to ensure that your beloved family member will have a safe and loving future.
Adoption Contracts:  We provide all adoption contracts and process them.  Do you want to feel comfortable that your pooch can NEVER be sold, given away, abandoned??? We do!
Adoption Post Placement:   Dogs adopted through educate a bull must sign up for an obedience class one month from their adoption date.  What a perfect way to start!  We will also check up on your dog to ensure that they are living in harmony with their new families. If not, we can provide education to assist through any behavioral issues in the future.

We spend hours going through applications, driving to home visits, meet-n-greets, and final adoption contracts.  We have calculated a donation fee of $200.00 that will cover this service as well as ensure that we can provide our other bullies with medical and behavioral care.

Lastly, take a moment to answer the following questions before considering re-homing your dog:

Do you remember the first time you set your eyes on your dog? Why did you get him?
How has he made you laugh?
Your dog has been through thick and thin with you..... why don’t you return the favor?

If you are still unable to keep your dog we would love to help you.  Please contact us at: info@educate-a-bull.org.
