COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Educate-a-Bull is committed to assisting in reducing and finding realistic ways to manage the current Pit Bull epidemic in our community.  Nationwide, Pit Bulls are the most prevalent breed to die in shelters each day.  This can be attributed to the fact that the American Pit Bull Terrier and Pit Bull mixes are some of the most popular breeds currently.  Thirty years ago it was the German Sheppard. Twenty years ago it was the Doberman Pinscher. Ten years ago it was the Rottweiller.  For the past ten years it has been the American Pit Bull Terrier, Pit Bull mixes and the bully breed as a whole.  This historically has led to negative consequences.  In the Buffalo area alone, the problem has reached epidemic proportions.  We are constantly faced with issues including:

- Overpopulation

- Over breeding and backyard breeding

- Irresponsible ownership

- Overcrowding in shelters

- Excessive number of strays

- Increasing numbers of intact strays

- Misidentification and breed profiling

As a result, Breed Specific Legislation is on the rise and responsible owners and animal advocates are fighting each day for the rights of these loyal and loving dogs.  There is an increased need for education regarding safe and responsible Pit Bull adoptions in area shelters and rescues and the community overall.  It is also imperative that existing dog related laws be enforced and followed to ensure responsible ownership.

Educate-a-Bull is continually developing programs to alleviate these issues that plague our community.  Current efforts include:

-  Fix-a-Bull Days:  an initiative to provide free spay and neutering to area Pit Bulls to decrease the number of intact strays in the Buffalo area

-  Educational Workshops: community education for children, adolescents and adults to decrease the negative stigma of the breed, the consequences of dog fighting and the importance of dog safety

Shelter and Rescue Group Support:  education and support initiatives to area shelters and rescue groups to assist in safe and responsbile placement of Pit Bulls.  We also provide trainings on the positive and amazing nature of the breed in an effort to decrease the negative stereotypes.

-  P.R.O.U.D Club — a resource for area Pit Bull owners to assist in training, education, and leading our area bullys to be excellent ambassadors of the breed

-HIKE A BULLS-is an iniative to change the stereotypical negative imagine of the pit bull dog.

We take pride and feel passionately about improving our community.  Through our programs and initiatives we are constantly developing new ways to decrease the negative stigma of the breed as well as restore the Pit Bull to its former place of esteem in the Buffalo community.
